Shing Fung Engineering & Equipment, Ltd., the highly regarded provider of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms and other powered access equipment in Hong Kong, celebrates their 50th anniversary this year and kicked off festivities with an “Open Day” event in December.
The 50th Anniversary Open Day highlighted Shing Fung’s history and accomplishments while also looking to the future. Among their exhibits were a variety of aerial work platforms from Tadano, a longtime partner.
Shing Fung Group launched in 1976 and is now a leading provider of Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) in Hong Kong. They specialize in renting, selling, and servicing high-quality powered access equipment with commitments to innovation, safety, and customer satisfaction.
Shing Fung began its relationship with Tadano in 2005 after purchasing the first second-hand Tadano Aerial Work Platform (AWP) in Hong Kong. In 2016, Shing Fung expanded its offerings by introducing the first fleet of brand-new Tadano CG series AWPs imported from Japan. The following year Shing Fung became the official distributor for Tadano AWPs in Hong Kong; they also made history as the first authorized AWP upper structure installation company in Asia, further solidifying their leadership in the industry.
“Tadano stands out as a forward-thinking and reliable leader in the AWP sector, known for their high-quality, innovative designs and strong emphasis on safety,” said Mr. Kindwind Wu, CEO of Shing Fung. “Shing Fung’s partnership with Tadano highlights the brand’s trustworthiness and popularity in Hong Kong. Tadano’s support for authorized installation and service networks, exemplified by Shing Fung, underscores its commitment to customer satisfaction and industry excellence. This dedication enhances Tadano as a top choice for construction professionals seeking dependable and cutting-edge aerial solutions.”
The Open Day event occurred on the 5th of December at the Shing Fung Film Studio and welcomed over 350 attendees, including members of the District Council, Construction Industry Council (CIC), Hong Kong Occupational Safety and Health (HKOSH); IPAF (the International Powered Access Foundation), and other industry experts.
Along with celebrating 50 years, the Open Day event gave Shing Fung the opportunity to present new designs and initiatives of their own, along with several Tadano models. Among them:
- The Tadano AT-170TG on an Isuzu 9-ton chassis.
- The brand-new Tadano AA-9PC, a crawler-type articulated boom lift with a 200kg platform capacity, 9m platform height, a horizontal reach of 6.475m, and a 5° tilt, all weighing less than 4,800kg.
- The first truck-mounted aerial platform in the new IPAF Training Center
- The new Hong Kong Training Center by Tadano authorized distributor.
- ProShield, a smart secondary guarding device (SGD) of Shing Fung’s own design. Created specifically for MEWPs, the SGD reduces crushing, collision, and blind-spot risks to protect operators during elevated work.
Other Tadano products were presented as part of Shing Fung’s portfolio, boosted by the experiences the company and their clients have had with them.
“Tadano products, including the CG, TG, S and TUL series, are exceptional in their design and performance,” said Mr. Wu. “The CG series, in particular, stands out with its articulated boom and jib, providing unparalleled stability and versatility. This makes it particularly well-suited for Hong Kong’s compact urban environments, where space is often limited. The user-friendly controls and advanced safety features further enhance operational efficiency.”
Users of the AWPs and attendees also provided feedback on Tadano AWPs, highlighting their “exceptional reliability” and safety features. They also appreciated the intuitive controls and ergonomic design, developed to enhance operational efficiency. Many operators commended the platforms for their stability, even in challenging conditions; they also praised the ease of setup and maneuverability in tight spaces. Durability of Tadano AWPs was frequently noted, which leads to lower maintenance costs over time.
“Overall, Tadano’s commitment to quality and innovation positions their products as a preferred choice for construction and rental companies in the region, ensuring reliability and performance in challenging conditions,” he said.
Mr. Wu expanded how Open Day functioned as a productive platform for building relationships within the construction community, enhancing Shing Fung’s network and positioning within the industry. They included:
- Showcasing Shing Fung’s innovative capacity, reinforcing its position as a leader in the construction solutions market
- Overwhelmingly positive feedback from attendees, enhancing the company’s reputation and leadership position
- A likely increase in training program participation with the introduction of Hong Kong’s first IPAF Training Center, leading to improved operator safety and competency while using aerial work platforms
- Increased product familiarization, including Tadano’s AT-170TG and AA-9PC models, ideally leading to increased rentals and sales
- Reinforcing Shing Fung’s unwavering commitment to safety with clients, potential clients, and operators
- New avenues for future partnerships and business opportunities as Shing Fung sets itself up for a transformative role in high-altitude operations
