Scott Powerline and Utility Equipment has been the first to introduce several new Tadano Teleboom Crawlers over the years. And that productive partnership continued earlier this year with the 60-ton GTC-600-2 performing well on its debut job in Mississippi. Chain Electric Company had an important project with eight miles of new power construction (230 kV electric transmission line towers) preparing for a data center just outside Meridian. After talking to Scott Powerline, they knew that had the right machine for the job.
Riley Beck, Area Supervisor for Chain Electric, shares his enthusiasm for the GTC-600-2, “Scott Powerline called us about the 600-2 and said it was available, and it was really just what we need for this project. We’re glad we got the opportunity to use it first because it can set the poles and hang the arm and do everything we need with one crane. We don’t have to have extra equipment to set these 230 (Kv) structures. Plus, we do a lot of traveling and the GTC-600-2 is a low weight crane. The only 60-ton teleboom crawler that I know of that can move on one haul truck, so we don’t have to break down into pieces.”
The GTC-600-2 has the same valuable features as its 55-ton predecessor – jib capacities to 2.5° out of level, dual hook operation with auxiliary nose sheave or jib, powerful winches with 16 mm rope, remote control for all rigging operations standard, best in class gradeability at 85% – and it also boasts an improved swing system. Additionally, the GTC-600-2 utilizes the full capabilities of the Tadano AML-C Rated Capacity Indicator and has operating load charts for 0.5°, 1.5°, 2.5° and 4° slope with automatic out of level load chart switching based on the cranes position on the jobsite.
Scott Powerline Account Manager Jay Lee appreciates the reliability of Tadano cranes, “Our relationship with Tadano started a long time ago, and we’ve stayed with the GTC series and it’s been a wonderful series for our customers. The GTC 600-2 is a great crane and really easy to move, which makes for a really good product in the powerline industry. That’s why we bought four of them. Also, the support system is really good. As far as service and parts, Tadano is always one phone call away when we need them. They have a team of people that know the cranes, our technicians and our needs.”
Garrett Taylor, general foreman and certified CCO crane operator with Chain Electric, was very pleased with the functionality of the crane, “The GTC-600-2 can go anywhere – from setting poles, hanging cross arms, making wire picks. It has a lot of high clearance for the muddy terrain we’re in. It can go through any hills and hollers we encounter. It’s got extendable tracks to make it more versatile. And just the comfort, the options and the tilt deck cab; they just make the operator very comfortable where you can do a safe and efficient job.”
The GTC-600-2 boasts a 113.8’ full power boom, OPTI-WIDTH™ and lifting capacities up to 4° out of level with full pick and carry. The new closed-loop hydrostatic system provides operators with smooth and precise control. It is also possible for the operator to set work zone limits for swing angle, height, and radius, and the crane has functional soft stops as operation approaches these pre-set limits. This functionality, along with being a one-truck crane, will make this Tadano a popular choice in the Scott Powerline fleet for years to come.
